Joan Baez - In The Quiet Morning (Come from the Shadows)

In the quiet morning
There was much despair
And in the hours that followed
No one could repair

That poor girl
Tossed by the tides of misfortune
Barely here to tell her tale
Rolled in on a sea of disaster
Rolled out on a mainline rail

She once walked right at my side
I'm sure she walked by you
Her striding steps could not deny
Torment from a child who knew

That in the quiet morning
There would be despair
And in the hours that followed
No one could repair

That poor girl
She cried out her song so loud
It was heard the whole world round
A symphony of violence
The great southwest unbound

la laa laa laa la la la laa laa
la laa laa laa la la laa laa
la laa laa laa la la la laa laa
la la la laa laa
la la la laa

In the quiet morning
There was much despair
And in the hours that followed
No one could repair

That poor girl
Tossed by the tides of misfortune
Barely here to tell her tale
Rolled in on a sea of disaster
Rolled out on a mainline rail

Thanks for singing this song much better than Joan used to do it. It is not Joan Baez that wrote it but her sister Mimi Farina!

thanks for covering this lovely song. Mimi first recorded it on _Take Heart_, her album with Tom Jans. I heard her sing it in concert a couple of times in the early 70s at the U of MN Whole Coffeehouse. Her sister's cover, on her _Come from the Shadows_ album, was a minor chart hit--I heard it on the radio a few times. Apparently, 10,000 Maniacs also covered it.

My tears fall whenever i see her portray.. I never found a title for her to describe her voice...once she said: "I make love with 30000 people on stage then I'll go home all alone"....I cry janis we all do....
